Samurdhi Beneficiary Empowerment Program.
There are 64 Grama Niladhari Divisions in the Welimada Divisional Secretariat of the Badulla District The Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and Burghers belong to this division.
Geographically it is bounded to the west by Nuwara Eliya divisional secretariat, bounded to the north by Uva Paranagama divisional secretariat to the east, Hali Ela and Bandarawela divisional secretariat to the south and Haldummulla division to the south.
The main livelihood of the people living in this division is agriculture. The total number of families in the division is 29094, of which 4426 are Samurdhi beneficiary families. There are 113133 small families.
Samurdhi Program is functioning in 05 Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the Welimada Divisional Secretariat.Divisional SecretaryThere are 07 Samurdhi Managers and 102 Samurdhi Development Officers in the divisionSamurdhi Managers as the pilots are supervised and guided by the Divisional Secretary.The Samurdhi Program implemented by the Government as the National Poverty Alleviation Program is implemented in 64 Grama Niladhari Divisions of the Welimada Divisional Secretariat.
Beneficiaries of Samurdhi Assistance have been assisted by small groups and Samurdhi societies in the banking community. This will not only improve the economic growth of the poor but also the social, cultural and attitudinal progress of the people.Similarly, the support of the Social Security Program in appreciating the lives of the poor is critical.
Although development programs are implemented to alleviate poverty by various names, it can be emphasized that the real poverty of the poor has been liberated through the Samurdhi programs.
